How to use JWT Mock Claim Builder

Get the best out of JWT Mock Claim Builder: every option explained, a worked example, and what to check when the output is not what you expected.

Updated July 31, 2026

What it does

Generate simulated JWT JSON payloads, custom claims, and mock signing setups to test client auth pipelines. It runs entirely in your browser — your input never leaves your device.

Options

Every setting this tool exposes, straight from the code that validates it.

OptionTypeDefaultWhat it does
subtext1234567890Defaults to 1234567890.
isstexthttps://auth.example.comDefaults to https://auth.example.com.
roletextadminDefaults to admin.
expiresInwhole number3600Seconds until expiry. Defaults to 3600.

Worked example

Run these settings on the tool page:

  • sub: 1234567890
  • iss: https://auth.example.com
  • role: admin
  • expiresIn: 3600

You get:

{
  "token": "eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiIsInR5cCI6IkpXVCJ9.eyJzdWIiOiIxMjM0NTY3ODkwIiwiaXNzIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly9hdXRoLmV4YW1wbGUuY29tIiwicm9sZSI6ImFkbWluIiwiZXhwIjoxNzg1NDk0Mjc1LCJpYXQiOjE3ODU0OTA2NzV9.c2ltdWxhdGVkX3NlY3JldF9rZXlfc2lnbmF0dXJlX3Byb29m",
  "header": {
    "alg": "HS256",
    "typ": "JWT"
  },
  "payload": {
    "sub": "1234567890",
    "iss": "https://auth.example.com",
    "role": "admin",
    "exp": 1785494275,
    "iat": 1785490675
  }
}

Getting the result you want

Most of the control here is in the options above. If the output is not what you expected, the setting to check first is sub and iss — those change the shape of the output rather than the input it accepts.

Troubleshooting

  • It is slow on very large input. Everything runs in your browser, so speed depends on your device. Very large inputs are best split up, or run through the API where the work happens on our servers.

Automating it

The same logic is available as a REST endpoint, so you can run it from a script, a CI job or your own app.

Bash
curl "https://api.toolsxpo.com/v1/jwt-mock-builder" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $TOOLSXPO_KEY"

It costs 1 credit per successful call. See the full endpoint reference, or try it in the playground.
